About Us
Avid Learning’s goal is to provide students with all the knowledge they need to exceed their expectations. We have developed a unique approach to standardized test instruction. Our team conducts an in-depth analysis of students’ initial scores and structures a comprehensive program that addresses students’ strengths and weaknesses. The program includes target scores for each student, a customized lesson plan, homework assignments that reinforce classwork, and guidance through the entire testing process. The tutors at Avid Learning have raised students’ SAT scores by as many as 700 points and ACT scores by as many as 12 points.
Over the years, we have helped a number of students achieve perfect scores on the SAT, ACT, and SAT-II. We have served families throughout the United States and globally in Belgium, Switzerland, Germany, India, South Africa, Brazil, and Colombia. In the New York Tri-state area alone, we have taught students from Lawrence-Woodmere Academy, Friends Academy, The Trevor Day School, St. John Vianney, Great Neck North H.S., Great Neck South H.S., Garden City H.S., and Syosset H.S. Most Avid Learning students have gained admission to Ivy League universities or second-tier institutions. We have tutored a wide spectrum of students over the years. We believe that every student has the potential to achieve a perfect score. A testament to our excellence in teaching is that many parents have registered all of their college-bound children with Avid Learning.
The founder of Avid Learning, Azeem Zaidi, graduated from Columbia University with a B.A. in Pan-African History. He has over 15 years of teaching experience and has prepared hundreds of students for standardized tests, such as the SAT, ACT, SAT-II in Math Levels 1 and 2, ISEE, SSAT, TOEFL, GRE, and GMAT. His team at Avid Learning has worked with college consultants, including The Ivy Coach, to help distinguish Avid Learning students as they pursue admission to highly competitive colleges.
Azeem has had diverse work experiences, which have shaped Avid’s comprehensive approach to standardized testing. While at Columbia University, Azeem volunteered at the Institute of Basic Research in Staten Island, New York. He had the honor of being part of a team of renowned scientists who have made great strides in developing a cure for Alzheimer’s disease. He also interned at the New York City headquarters of the Foreign Policy Association, a non-profit organization that encourages awareness and understanding of global issues. Azeem independently edited and published a literary magazine that gave a voice to undergraduate students at Columbia.
Azeem has always had a propensity for teaching. As a freshman in high school, he tutored juniors and seniors for the SAT. At Columbia, he assisted third and fourth year students in their preparation for the GRE and the GMAT. Now as the lead instructor with Avid Learning, Azeem manages a team that consistently receives outstanding reviews from students, whose impressive results invariably exceed their own expectations.
